News on 5 Pointz

In today's Sunday Times paper, particularly in the main section, an article by Cara Buckley goes over in detail the future plans of this most sought-after graffiti mecca we all know and love: 5 Pointz. It has been a tourist attraction, a heaven for graffiti writers across the globe and most importantly, a part of New York and the art community at large. Behind the massive structure are 200 artists that have inhabited the space and made it their studios. With the fall of Nicole Gagne, a jeweler and one of the artists that work in this space, all of the other in-house artists feel the pain as the city's Building Department filed a host of building violations such as unsafe working conditions and creating studios without permit. Read on for more information at The New York Times.

I actually saw the city's Building Department touring the place exactly last week when I went over there to take pictures. They sealed off the areas and were obviously annoyed that I was around the area and interfering with their inspection.
