I was stunned by the title of the exhibition and decided to check out as I walked by James Cohan's gallery. Chinese conceptual artist, Xu Zhen is known as one of the contemporary artists that addresses the socio-political taboos within the cultural context of his country. We all know how difficult that is! The artist creates this fictional idea that intersects the idea of mistaken identity, freedom in artistic creation and most importantly cultural perception on political conspiracy. One may ask, why Middle East? One good reason is that Middle East is that the artist decided to reach out to a greater audience and enhance our participation in the greater picture. Politically compelling and it respectively displays an unconditional fragmentation of reality.
