A self-portrait is a representation of an artist, drawn, painted, photographed, or sculpted by the artist. Although self-portraits have been made by artists since the earliest times, it is not until the Early Renaissance in the mid 1400s that artists can be frequently identified depicting themselves as either the main subject, or as important characters in their work. With better and cheaper mirrors, and the advent of the panel portrait, many painters, sculptors and printmakers tried some form of self-portraiture... In this respect it will be an interesting and new experience to show the vision of the "self-portrait" by contemporary urban artists from all over the world. curated by Johann Haehling von Lanzenauer http://www.circleculture-gallery.com
Long-Bin Chen carefully crafts his breathtaking sculptures out of books, newspapers, magazine and other discarded scraps that can be utilized as a recyclable medium. He embraces beauty from an Eastern perspective and gives us an overview of art dated back from ancient civilization such as Aztec, Buddha faces and Chinese Warriors. A great artist to look into.
UK artist Claire Morgan is not your average visual and installation artist. Rather, she is eminent for her important practice and experimentation of sculptural installations using an all-natural process and materials; creating what we can describe as an organic and thought provoking visual language. Her explorations of all things related to nature and strengthening her appeal with the usage of gravity is phenomenal. As for today, her work is mostly commissioned to fit temporary and permanent public spaces, which if you notice in this images, follow a strict repetitive and highly controlled placement within the working space. So dramatic!
