Stretching Reality

Art has no power to impress the mind without providing us with a glimpse of reality. It adds to reality, allowing us to sway away from simply describing it as an abstract entity. Reality in this sense leaves a lot to the imagination. The world of imagination, as we know is boundless. In his art John von Bergen, illustrates how art provides an escape or illusion that corresponds to the reality that surrounds us. The stretched and exaggerated reality, in fact commends itself to us as a pleasurable entity. Through his installations, he is able to enrich the necessary elements of our daily life requires and provides. What is fascinating about his method of practice is that he encourages the viewer to immerse him or herself into the work of art while maintaining their physicality in their own space. The space becomes the reality of his art. It is at that very moment, in which we exchange information: when mastering the interaction of self and space, do we experience a great physical and intellectual joy.

Like everything metaphysical, the harmony between thought and reality is to be found in the creation of art. Bergen opens our eyes into a different reality. A slice of uncertainty that enlightens the joy of mystery of our perception of reality and the constant search for the ideal truth.
