Trans-Cool Tokyo is a traveling exhibition of contemporary Japanese art from the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo Collection, currently showing at Singapore Art Museum at 8Q. The show, running until February 13th showcases multiple works of Japanese Pop Art, ranging from Yayoi Kusama and Yoshitomo Nara to artists such as Kohei Nawa and Yasumasa Morimura. Since the second half of 1990s, Japanese artists have established their own creative grounds, forming unique identities that have been adopted and celebrate throughout the international pop culture movement. The selected pieces, such as Morimura's Criticism and the Lover A, B, C embody humor and irony, responding to both mass culture as well as rejecting the perception of art as a privileged subject for the affluent crowd.
